TROPICAL ISLES OF SCILLY

Just 28 miles off the southwest tip of Britain, lies the small, beautiful archipelago of the Isles of Scilly ... a charismatic destination with unique charm and warmth: with mile after mile of white sandy beaches, acres of natural landscape to explore, a rich and fascinating history, we offer a holiday that can be custom-made for you.

Days can be spent as busy, or as leisurely, as you choose - scratch the surface and you will discover a proud heritage and traditional culture. The skies seem bigger here, the horizons further away, and the landscape broader. It all feels quite intimate and old-fashioned, as if you've stumbled upon an idyllic film set from a bygone era.

Let the concerns of everyday life drift away on the falling tide. This is the stuff that holiday memories are made of: beautiful surroundings, a gentler pace of life, quiet conversation and nature's soundtrack.

SENNEN COVE BEACH

Sennen Cove has become renowned for its surfing conditions and is highly regarded by local and non-local surfers alike. Sennen tends to be slightly more protected from winds and swell than Gwenvor at the other end of the bay. Many people have commented on Sennen's laid back and friendly atmosphere which adds to the feel of Sennen Cove, making it a popular tourist destination for holiday makers and surfers alike. Sennen is good at most tides, bar extreme high tide, works best with a westerly swell and a light easterly wind. Surf gear can be hired at the beach, situated next to a large car park and beach cafe. This is a well known fact that King Arther took the body of his favorite horse to be cast out to sea after it had been slain.

 THE MINACK THEATRE

The Minack Theatre, built in the style of an ancient Roman Amphitheatre, but with the added drama of the ocean as its backdrop, was constructed in the 1930s - as a hobby project - by the late Miss Rowena Cade who lived in the large house just behind the theatre. While the theatre began as a "garden project", it has developed over the years since its inception into a world-famous venue and a summer season of plays and musical entertainment is held every year from the end of May until late September. The programme includes a wide variety of productions - straight plays, comedies & musicals - ranging from Shakespeare to Gilbert & Sullivan as well as modern productions, each showing on weekdays (Mondays to Fridays), with a change of programme and production company weekly. While performances are not taking place, the Theatre - and its adjacent Visitor Centre (which tells of the history and development of the Theatre) - can be visited at a small charge. Sometimes rehearsals for the forthcoming performance can be seen during these visits allowing a 'sneak preview' of the next show!

HISTORIC GEEVOR TIN MINES

This amazing tin mine museum tells the story of mining in Cornwall and the people who lived here. In our mineral gallery you can see some of the spectacular and unusual minerals which are found underground in Cornwall. Above ground you can visit surface buildings such as the Miners’ Dry, left almost exactly as it was on that day in 1990 when the last working miner left the site. You can walk through the Mill and learn about the processes used to obtain tin concentrate from the ore brought up from the tunnels below. Dogs are welcome all over the site with the exception of the Underground Tour. Enjoy a home cooked meal in the café with views over the Atlantic; visit the shop for a tempting range of books, minerals, jewellery and crafts.
